Building Confidence Through Competence: MTRD Laboratories on the Path to Accreditation

Quality infrastructure begins with trusted results — and that trust is built through accreditation.

The Kenya Accreditation Service (KENAS) is conducting a specialized training on Method Validation & Uncertainty Measurement (MVUM) and Risk Management under ISO/IEC 17025:2017 for the Materials Testing and Research Division (MTRD) under the Ministry of Transport, Infrastructure, Housing, Urban Development and Public Works – State Department of Infrastructure.

Facilitated by Ms. Felista Nyakoe and Mr. Ochogo, the program equips participants with essential skills to ensure laboratory measurements and results are accurate, consistent, and internationally recognized.

During the session, KENAS CEO, Dr. Walter Ongeti, assured the participants of KENAS’s full support in the accreditation of MTRD’s laboratories located across the country.

“When laboratories are accredited, their results speak with authority — strengthening public confidence, infrastructure quality, and national competitiveness,”
Dr. Walter Ongeti.

Accreditation to ISO/IEC 17025:2017 is the global standard for laboratory competence, impartiality, and consistency — ensuring that Kenya’s testing and calibration laboratories deliver results that stand up to international scrutiny.

At KENAS, we remain committed to empowering laboratories across sectors to achieve and maintain accreditation — building a Kenya where quality, safety, and trust define every test result.
