KENAS participated in the #WorldAIDSDay2024 Half Marathon themed "Promoting the Health and Well-Being of Men and Boys,” at Nyayo Stadium, Nairobi. Organized by the National Syndemic Diseases Control Council (NSDCC), the event served as a powerful call to action to tackle the Triple Threat of new HIV infections, unintended pregnancies, and sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) among adolescents and young people.

As the national accreditation body, KENAS is committed to supporting Kenya’s fight against HIV & AIDS by providing accreditation services that ensure the competence and reliability of medical laboratories and diagnostic facilities. Medical laboratory testing is at the core of HIV diagnosis and monitoring. KENAS has accredited over 150 medical laboratories under ISO 15189:2012, ensuring they meet international standards for quality and competence.

Accreditation guarantees accurate and reliable HIV test results reducing the risk of misdiagnosis and enhancing confidence in the healthcare system by patients, healthcare providers, and regulators leading to improved access to quality-assured diagnostic services, particularly for vulnerable populations. Accreditation also supports implementing innovative testing technologies, such as point-of-care diagnostics, which expand access to HIV testing in remote and underserved areas.

Beyond laboratory testing, KENAS’s accreditation services extend to diagnostic imaging. Imaging techniques, such as X-rays and ultrasounds, are increasingly integrated into comprehensive HIV care, particularly for diagnosing opportunistic infections and other complications associated with HIV/AIDS. Accreditation ensures that imaging facilities operate with precision and adhere to international safety and quality standards.

Our participation in the #WorldAIDSDay2024 Half Marathon was also part of our Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities. By aligning our CSR efforts with our core mandate of accreditation, we ensure a meaningful impact in the fight against HIV/AIDS and other health challenges.
