KENAS Joins the Nation in Restoring Forests and Empowering Communities

In a bold show of commitment to climate action and community empowerment, the Kenya Accreditation Service (KENAS) joined thousands of Kenyans during the 9th Kaptagat Integrated Tree Growing Activity, a flagship event under the national 15 Billion Tree Planting Programme.

Led by our Board Chairperson, Mr. Ngeny Biwott, KENAS staff turned up in full force—braving rain and muddy terrain—to plant trees and nurture hope. The team donated 20,000 tree seedlings and actively participated in planting over 59,000 trees, in alignment with the Government’s environmental restoration agenda.

This event is part of a larger whole-of-government approach that integrates not just reforestation, but also social and economic empowerment of communities. From Etio Dam commissioning, distribution of cash crop seedlings, to rural electrification, road upgrades, and school improvements—this initiative embodies the Government’s Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA).

The event was graced by top national leaders including:

  • Mr. Felix Kosgei, Chief of Staff and Head of Public Service (Chief Guest)
  • Dr. Chris Kiptoo, Principal Secretary, National Treasury and Patron of the Initiative
  • Dr. Deborah Barasa, Cabinet Secretary for Environment, Climate Change and Forestry
  • Other Principal Secretaries, elected leaders, and local communities

“Tree growing is more than conservation — it is nation building.”

KENAS continues to integrate sustainability and climate responsibility into its operations, partnerships, and stakeholder engagements. We believe that a greener, healthier Kenya is the foundation of a more resilient and prosperous future.
