KENAS Resource Mobilization Training: Building the Future of Accreditation Projects
From 11th to 13th September 2024, KENAS hosted a Resource Mobilization (RM) Training aimed at equipping participants with the critical skills needed to develop fundable proposals and secure resources for accreditation-related projects. The three-day session, conducted by an external training team led by Dr. Joseph Mwiti from the Meru University of Science and Technology's Institute of Cement and Concrete, was held at the KENAS Training Room. Participants included members of the Resource Mobilization Committee and select KENAS staff, with CEO Dr. Walter Ongeti officially opening the training.
Why Resource Mobilization Matters
The KENAS RM training addressed a pressing challenge: the need to secure funding for vital accreditation projects amidst reduced government funding. This aligns with the KENAS FY 2024/2025 Performance Contract, which highlights resource mobilization as a strategic priority to sustain and expand KENAS's role both in Kenya and regionally. Accreditation projects, including research, infrastructure enhancement, capacity building, and scheme development, require significant resources to maintain excellence. The training introduced best practices in proposal development to ensure KENAS remains competitive in attracting donor funding.
Core Learning Areas
Participants delved into essential topics, including understanding donor priorities, identifying new funding opportunities, and crafting proposals aligned with both KENAS’s goals and donor missions. The approach emphasized the importance of structured brainstorming to generate innovative project ideas and form dynamic teams capable of producing high-quality, fundable proposals. They explored the administrative aspects, including budget formulation, project descriptions, and timelines, and were also taught how to avoid common pitfalls like misaligned objectives, excessive detail, and procedural errors.
The Future of Resource Mobilization at KENAS
As KENAS continues to expand its accreditation services and strengthen its role both locally and regionally, the ability to secure funding through well-crafted proposals becomes even more essential. With this training, KENAS is better positioned to meet its resource needs, reduce reliance on government funding, and unlock new opportunities to drive excellence in accreditation.
This initiative, led by Doris Mengo, Chair of the Resource Mobilization Committee and Manager of Medical Laboratories, marks a significant step toward ensuring KENAS’s long-term sustainability through resource mobilization.
Accreditation is not just about standards—it’s about ensuring quality, reliability, and confidence in services. With enhanced resource mobilization, KENAS can continue to uphold these values while growing and innovating in the accreditation space.
