KENAS Showcases Kenya’s Accreditation Progress at the AFRAC General Assembly in Entebbe

At the African Accreditation Cooperation (AFRAC) General Assembly held in Entebbe, Uganda, the KENAS CEO, Dr. Walter Ongeti, presented Kenya’s remarkable progress in advancing the accreditation agenda across sectors.

Dr. Ongeti’s report spotlighted significant milestones, including the development of the KENAS Strategic Plan 2024–2028, the mapping of Conformity Assessment Bodies (CABs), and sectoral engagements aimed at deepening quality and compliance across industries.

A major highlight was the extension of KENAS’s Mutual Recognition Arrangements (MRAs) with both the International Accreditation Forum (IAF) and AFRAC to include Information Security Management Systems (ISMS) — covering ISO/IEC 27006-1 and ISO/IEC 27001 — a critical step in strengthening Kenya’s digital trust and data security landscape.

Other achievements shared included:

  • Successful hosting of World Accreditation Day 2025 and the Assessor Conclave 2025.
  • Support to the operationalization of the Uganda National Accreditation Service (UGANAS), reinforcing regional cooperation.
  • Growth in accreditation reach — with 280 accredited clients as of September 2025, reflecting steady expansion and confidence in KENAS’s services.

Looking ahead, Dr. Ongeti underscored the significance of the upcoming International Accreditation Conference (IAC) 2025, to be held in Mombasa, Kenya — the first of its kind in Africa. The event will convene global thought leaders and technical experts to shape the future of accreditation on the continent.

At KENAS, we remain steadfast in our mission to build trust, enable trade, and safeguard public interest through accreditation that meets international best practices and drives Africa’s quality revolution.
