Strengthening Trust in Water Quality Through Accreditation
Clean and safe water is a cornerstone of public health — and the foundation of sustainable development.
The Kenya Accreditation Service (KENAS), led by Chief Manager, Laboratories, Ms. Lucy Namu, engaged with the leadership, technical managers, and staff of the Athi Water Works Development Agency (AWWDA) — a key institution overseeing bulk water supply and sanitation infrastructure across Kiambu, Murang’a, and Nairobi counties.
The interactive session opened new perspectives on the value of accrediting AWWDA’s testing laboratory to ISO/IEC 17025, the global standard for laboratory competence. Accreditation ensures that water testing results are accurate, consistent, and reliable, ultimately reinforcing public confidence in the safety and quality of water supplied to communities.
AWWDA reaffirmed its commitment to begin this journey — starting with training on the International Standard — a decisive step toward safeguarding public health, promoting sustainable water management, and building trust in essential water services.
At KENAS, we remain steadfast in supporting such initiatives that uphold quality, protect communities, and advance Kenya’s vision for a safe and sustainable future.
