Building Responsible Citizens: KENAS Promotes National Values Through School CSR Outreach

Kenya Accreditation Service (KENAS) has reaffirmed its commitment to nation-building through a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) outreach programme aimed at promoting the National Values and Principles of Governance among learners in Kakamega and Bungoma counties.

Conducted from 29th June to 1st July 2026, the initiative brought together learners, teachers, and school leadership from St. John's Mahiakalo Comprehensive School, Daisy Special School, St. Paul's Shibuye Boys Comprehensive School, and Friends Senior School Kiminini. The programme sought to inspire young people to embrace the values enshrined in Article 10 of the Constitution of Kenya, including patriotism, integrity, inclusivity, accountability, transparency, and sustainable development.

Speaking during the engagements, the KENAS team emphasized that national values are not merely constitutional ideals but practical principles that should guide everyday decisions in schools, homes, and communities.

Learning Through Engagement

The outreach adopted an interactive approach that blended mentorship with co-curricular activities, enabling learners to appreciate national values in practical and engaging ways.

At St. John's Mahiakalo Comprehensive School, learners creatively expressed their understanding of national values through artwork and music, while chess sessions encouraged critical thinking, discipline, and strategic decision-making.

At Daisy Special School, the programme celebrated inclusivity by engaging learners in art, music, and chess activities tailored to their abilities. The sessions reinforced the importance of equality, dignity, and ensuring that every learner has an opportunity to develop their potential.

At St. Paul's Shibuye Boys Comprehensive School, learners showcased leadership and teamwork through scouting, football, and chess. To support sports development, KENAS donated footballs to the school, recognizing the important role of co-curricular activities in shaping responsible and disciplined young people.

The outreach concluded at Friends Senior School Kiminini, where learners demonstrated their talents through music, poetry, spoken word, dance, artwork, and chess. The activities illustrated how creativity can be harnessed to promote ethical leadership, patriotism, and responsible citizenship.

Strengthening Partnerships for National Development

Beyond engaging learners, KENAS held discussions with school administrators and teachers on strengthening mentorship programmes and integrating the National Values and Principles of Governance into school life. The engagements reinforced the important role of partnerships between public institutions and educational institutions in nurturing future leaders.

The outreach also highlighted the value of co-curricular activities in building confidence, teamwork, creativity, discipline, and leadership among learners.

KENAS' Commitment to Community Impact

As Kenya's National Accreditation Body, KENAS is mandated to accredit competent conformity assessment bodies, thereby promoting confidence in testing, calibration, inspection, certification, medical laboratory, and other conformity assessment services. Through its CSR programme, however, the organization also contributes to national development by supporting initiatives that promote education, ethical leadership, and responsible citizenship.

The successful outreach in Kakamega and Bungoma Counties reflects KENAS' belief that investing in young people today is an investment in Kenya's future. By promoting the National Values and Principles of Governance within learning institutions, KENAS is helping nurture a generation of ethical, responsible, and value-driven citizens who will contribute positively to their communities and the nation's sustainable development.
